… Maybe I should’ve written a sticky that said I’d be at NYCC all weekend! Yesterday was exciting, I have plenty of things to post about… but it’ll all have to wait until tomorrow because I’m just going to wrap things up for y’all with a “pretty little bow”. In the meantime, I went to Erick Scarecrow’s Soopa Coin Up Show. First thing that must be mentioned, getting there really was “soopa easy” as Erick stated on the flyer.
Once I got there, I have to admit that I was highly impressed with the space. It was nothing like I had imagined… then again, whenever I’m outside of my safe zone, nothing is really what it seems. The space was big and well lit. I’m not a fan of florescent lights beaming over my head, but I love florescent lights both behind or under vinyls because it just makes for better photos. That’s just my opinion.
The customs were overall amazing. I had fond memories of kANO’s Money Grip show- not in the art or artists themselves, but seeing what other artists do with ONE specific figure. The munny/dunny is so “mainstream” that it doesn’t have the same effect on me that these shapes have. Hit the jump for some of my favorites and visit the flickr to see all of the customs.

Toy Break’s was hilarious… it’s them holding Mouse Micci!

Last night was Mad’s Phase 3 realease. What’s that mean? I am referring to the second coming of his Mad*l’s. I have to say that since I got into the scene I was longing for this day. I wasn’t around during the first wave of Mad*L’s and now that he’s producing them himself, I am overjoyed with the upcoming releases. In order to kick off the Mad*L wave, Mad has a custom 10″ Mad*Ls show at MPH last night. Check out more photos after the jump.
So here is Scarlett from the upcoming G.I. Joe movie. Not bad but they have the color scheme is wrong. as you see from the picture below. There is a lot of brown in her suit. Seems like the movie is going to be all about black leather.
When I heard they were making a Batman Anime to go along with the upcoming movie, I was a bit iffy but after seeing this trailer that is all gone. It looks quite good and they get points for bring back Kevin Conroy as Batman. It’s coming out in July 8th, 2008 on DVD and Blu-Ray.
Quarantine is a remake of the Spain film [REC]. If the trailer is any indication of the final film. They look like they did a great job remake it. Well then again, I didn’t see [REC] but the trailer was great. Let hope they this is as least as good as Diary of the Dead.
Sorry in advance for the sound quality this podcast. We had a whole bunch of technical difficulties but managed to put something great together.
This week’s topic:
What is wrong with Video game Stories?
So we are trying something new. We are going to have one main topic for the podcast. Along with the News and “What we’ve been playing”. Bear with us as it’s still a work in progress and this week we go off topic quite often. We end up talking about Final Fantasy 7 again. Though this time its Grim’s fault.
There is still a big part of the world that see gamers in terms of stereotypes; telling us games are for kids and to grow up. So when you have a mainstream show like “Tyra Banks’ Show” that hosts a couple in which the guy happens to be a Gamer, you would think that their “expert” would explain that video games are just a form of entertainment. A gamer is no different then say a movie buff. Now if the “expert” is X-play’s Morgan Webb, you would think that being in the gaming industry would give her a insight. Sadly this was not the case, she put us all into video game stereotypes. Now I remember why I hate X-play.
Got some time? Then how about you print this snes papercraft and “build” your own old school console. Oh, if you’ve got time, make two and sent it my way, I’d love to use it as a prop in my photos. Click the image to enlarge and print. Thanks to deviant art user ryo007for creating it and sharing.
While on the search for tokidoki bags, one in particular, I stopped by Yoyamart and ended up seeing these Kubrick Mobiles. They have 5 different designs, but I especially love the Batman and Superman designs. Unfortunately, each design costs $24.95, if you want one for yourself click the link at the bottom.
My Mr. and I made our way to The Brooklyn Museum to check out Murakami’s exhibit today. AMAZING, stunning, marvelous, truly magnificent are some of the words that come to mind. Oh, and once or twice I thought perverted. The space they provided him with was overwhelming. He really was the reason to be there today.
Earlier this week, I tried to get passes for the gala evening. One, I wanted to try my luck with a sketch, and I also knew Kanye would be performing and he happens to be one of my favorite performers. I was contacted with a sad, but regretful no– and I was heartbroken, especially when I got to see the pictures. Unfortunately, the images above were the only ones I was able to take. No photos were allowed. =(
Once we made our way through the show, we ended up in the shop and I couldn’t help but purchase a butt-load of stuff. If you want to purchase some stuff yourself, they have some items listed online [click here]. I spent a good chunk of my paycheck today… check the following post for a chance to win some stuff yourself.
I went to see Mist at Kid Robot today. Unfortunately, it was the first time that I actually didn’t stick around for a signing or bothered to meet the artist. Whenever I go to these signings, I tend to bring my sketchbook to steal the souls of the very talented artists that create the figures we all love and adore. I don’t think I’ve ever shown up to an event with the artist’s figure and asked for him/her to sign it. I love my vinyls too much to get them defaced with ink. That’s just me though.
When I arrived to Mist’s signing, the first thing I was told was “no sketchbooks.” One of the guys said he walked in, asked for a sketch and was told to buy the figure. Mist would not be sketching in books only on figures. This decision truly angered me. I know the plot is to both sell as many figures as possible and keep to the time constraints, but I’m a fan who doesn’t like to get her vinyls drawn on. Since I want a tag on a book instead of a vinyl, that means I’m not entitled to one? I didn’t think it was fair. I was angry, so I asked to just take some quick shots and bounced.
I have a huge list of updates that I haven’t been able to cut down for what seems like weeks. I have a midterm, tests and papers/stories due, so please pardon the lack of posts these days. I’m not sure if you’ve heard about Toy Baronesses GID Dunny? It is going to be released April 18th, during her birthday party at the Knitting Factory. I’d been holding off on this post because I didn’t know the location of the party, but alas, the news has arrived. Is anyone planning on going? Click on the flyer for more info.
I liked the first Obscure. While not a great game it was fun and added a few new things to the mix. One of the being one of the few Co-op horror games out there. This trailer is a bit out there. Not sure what is going on but strangely I want to try the game out. Looks like it might be a Gamefly in its future.
We are down one due to a cold. At least Izzy doesn’t have the T-Virus, at least we think she doesn’t. This week’s podcast quality is a bit iffy. Sorry about that.. It will be back to normal next week.
In this show:
-Army of Two… Not that bad.
-Grim Santo really likes Advance Wars… really…really
-Nintendo shafting the US Market?
