Justice League of America Movie in the works.

Posted in Gaming News by Grim Santo on Feb 23rd, 2007, Comments (0)

Potentially huge news for DC Comics fans this week, as Warner Brothers have taken the first step towards making a Justice League of America movie a reality. They have reportedly hired the husband/wife screenwriting team of Kieran and Michele Mulroney (any relation to Brian and Ben?) to write the script. They previously contributed to the script for the upcoming Alexandre Aja film Mirrors. Now before everyone gets too excited, I think there are a lot of issues that would still need to be worked out in order for a JLA movie to actually happen. One of the big questions is whether or not to use the same cast members from their current Superman and Batman franchises (Brandon Routh and Christian Bale) along with whoever they potentially cast in their Wonder Woman and Flash films. It would certainly keep with the continuity of the DC Universe that we’ve seen on screen, but could make for a pretty massive and unwieldy budget. On the other hand, a Justice League of America movie could potentially be the biggest comic book movie ever made. I mean, out of all the DC properties, I think this is what I would want to see most. This is the premiere superhero team, and one that I grew up with. Either way, despite the challenges, I’d much rather see this than that stupid Batman vs Superman idea that’s been floating around for years. Thoughts?

Wii Virtual Console (Japan) gets Neo Geo and MSX

Posted in Gaming News by Grim Santo on Feb 23rd, 2007, Comments (0)

The Wii Virtual Console in Japan is set to add another two console selections to its lineup — the fighter friendly Neo Geo and the MSX. The Neo Geo is SNK’s baby and home to King of Fighters, Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, Metal Slug, and various other masterpieces of the 2D gaming age. The MSX is of course Japan’s early-80s attempt to standardize the world computer market. The effort didn’t pan out despite brisk sales, but as a game platform it excelled, giving birth to such esteemed series as Metal Gear, Bomberman, Parodius, and Puyo Puyo. Other than MSX titles Eggy and Aleste, no games have been specifically mentioned, and there are no rumblings currently of a European or American release of titles from either system. If I had to guess, I’d say there’s a 50% chance for the Neo Geo titles showing up here, and not a chance in hell for the MSX

Disney’s Prince of Persia?

Posted in Gaming News by Grim Santo on Feb 23rd, 2007, Comments (0)

[image:14:r]It seems like the only thing movie studios are interested in lately are movies that can spin off a limitless franchise of successful films… one-shot stories need not apply. In particular, the suits at Disney seem quite anxious to ensure that they’ll have some decent money makers continuing the massive cash flow of the Pirates of the Caribbean series after Pirates 3 hits theatres this summer. I’m not sure if they’re still talking about doing a 4th, 5th and 6th Pirates of the Caribbean movie, but their keen interest in fostering new franchises would seem to indicate otherwise.Strangely, one of the titles being talked about as a potential upcoming hit series for Disney is the Prince of Persia movie, based on the video games created by Jordan Mechner and published by Ubisoft. We first started hearing about it back in 2004 when Jerry Bruckheimer picked up the rights to the film, but they’ve really been taking their time developing it. Could it be because they want Prince of Persia to be the unofficial successor to Pirates of the Caribbean? It certainly seems like it. Over on the Jim Hill Media blog, he writes that Prince of Persia “will be Disney’s big action-adventure release for the Summer of 2008″ and will likely “lead to a new hit series of movies for the studio”. Strangely, an old post I found on the blog of John August, the film’s executive producer, would seem to confirm this: “Neither Jordan or I wanted to directly translate the game to screen, a la Resident Evil. Rather, the goal is to make something like Pirates of the Caribbean, swashbuckling and exciting in an entirely new world.” Well, it’s interesting to see such high hopes being pinned on a video game movie, but the games are great and have the feel of a beautifully rendered fairytale. I’m looking forward to see how it all pans out.

I am really big POP fan. I hope this movie doesn’t go down the road of of Video Game Movies… Yeah I am looking at you Resident Evil.

Silent Hill the arcade game

Posted in Gaming News by Claire Redfield on Feb 17th, 2007, Comments (0)

I saw this on web early this morning and thought about it all day, well that and how I know I am going to see the Ghost Rider movie later even though I know its going to be awfull but its been a long time since i posted a blog about a movie so i figured this one would give me good material.

news from destrucoid:

Silent Hill: The Arcade Game photo

.. If we’re on the post page, show the whole post; if we aren’t, show until the more tag –>In their coverage of AOU2007, Game Watch shows off Konami’s newest arcade game, Silent Hill: The Arcade. This is a two player light gun game set in the creepy Silent Hill universe, and is set to give Silent Hill fans repeated, rapid fire pants explosions. Fan favorites like “Pyramid Head” and the freaky puppet nurses are set to make wonderful gun targets as players traverse the foggy, rust colored world.

The arcade cabinet in its deluxe form has a 5.1 surround system hidden underneath its curtains to give players a totally immersive experience, but aside from that it looks to be standard Konami gun fare. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but none of that matters as Silent Hill fans are probably going to enjoy it anyway.

Let’s hope this comes stateside – those nurses need to be put down.

Would I play this game if I saw it at an arcade? Of course I always stop and play the House of the Dead games… Oh wait thats not what this is?
I keed, but seriously the first thing that came to mind when I saw these pics were ‘thats not how the nurses walk’.
I’m a purist so when there is change it usually bugs me.
But I am also an addict and a fangirl so if this thing doesn’t come to the states it will bug me that there is a Silent Hill I haven’t played.

360 Raving Rabbids to use Vision camera

Posted in Gaming News by Grim Santo on Feb 14th, 2007, Comments (0)

The Xbox 360 version of Rayman: Raving Rabbids will contain an unexpected surprise: Vision camera support. 37 of the game’s 70+ plus mini-games will utilize the Vision camera for motion based control. These mini-games will include the FPS and dancing mini-games. The Xbox 360 version of Raving Rabbids will receive some graphical upgrades and some exclusive mini-games as well. Two of the new exclusive mini-games include “Bunnies Don’t Play Basketball” and “Bunnies Don’t Play Rock, Paper, Scissors.”

The addition of Vision camera support is certainly welcome, as the peripheral’s motion sensing capabilities have been underutilized thus far in its lifespan.

Random news

Posted in Gaming News by Claire Redfield on Feb 8th, 2007, Comments (0)

Here’s a bunch of random stuff all in one blog so you don’t have to click a bunch of links. Enjoy.

Konami announced nothing.
Waited all of Monday to see what the earth shattering news was and there was none.

Crossing the street while playing with your ipod to become illegal?

“Yes, he is planning to introduce a law which would make the use of the iPod, the BlackBerry or any other handheld illegal, when crossing the streets of New York. No matter how funny or weird that might sound to you, his intentions are pretty serious. He claims that the number of fatal accidents caused by what he calls “the iPod oblivion” is increasing in New York and as an example he brings the case of a young man who died last month. Apparently, the 23 years old man got hit by a bus while inattentively crossing a street, with his mind focused on what the iPod was playing. He did not cite though any scientific study concerning the rise of such fatal, iPod-related accidents.”

You ever look at instructions of something and see really silly warnings like
don’t blow dry your hair while your in the shower or like those little packets that come with your sneakers that say ‘Do not eat’? Remember that silly warnings like that come because people do silly things so they must be told what to do.
A death of a person is always a sad thing (unless that person eats babies then its not so sad if they kick) but a person should always look both ways before wandering into oncoming traffic. We shouldn’t need a law to tell us to be carefull on how we cross the street.

Gamestop is strict:
(from destructoid.com)
“If you plan on buying the M-rated classic, Bad Boys: Miami Take Down from your local GameStop, you might want to make sure you bring your ID and a DNA sample to prove it’s actually you. Our sources close to the retailer tell us that the company is laying down the law on M-rated title sales to minors, Apprentice style.

In a conference call held late last week, managers were informed of the new, stricter M-rated software sales policy. Selling a game to a minor and getting caught will result in immediate termination. But it gets better — if an hourly employee sells an M-rated game to a minor, not only will he or she lose their job, but the salaried store manager will be terminated as well, even if they were not present in the store at the time of the sale. Yikes.

The company has always had a policy of not selling M-rated titles to those under the age of 17. But this bold and threatening policy is a new step, no doubt influenced by the recent waves of legislation and related media coverage.

Along with retailers like Circuit City, Best Buy, and Blockbuster Video, GameStop is a member of the ESRB Retail Council. Among efforts to enforce policies and support the ESRB ratings, members are subject to mystery shop audits in which a consumer under the age of 17 will attempt to buy mature rated titles. Results recorded as late as November of last year showed that 65% of the time, M-rated sales policies were enforced. The other 35% of the time resulted in high school shootings and teen pregnancy.”

Run Ms. Pacman, Run

Posted in FMV by Claire Redfield on Feb 7th, 2007, Comments (0)

First watch this video and then read my commentary below. It will make more sense if you do it in that order. Or you can try and do it at the same time but then you risk the chances of your head es-ploding.

Ok so if you watch this video carefully you might have noticed that it was shot in New York. What gives it away?
Not the street names, its not the gambling in the streets or visible landmarks, no you can tell its New York because a life sized Ms. Pacman is running through the streets being chased by 3 ghost and no one seems to care.

Not many people even seem to take notice to the Ms. Pacman who is running for her life. I blame us New Yorkers for what happened at the end of the video.

Mr. Pacman I’m sorry that I didn’t do anything to help your lady…please don’t eat me.
