My Time with Trauma Center

Posted in Gaming News by Claire Redfield on Nov 25th, 2006, Comments (0)

So the 4 day long holiday weekend is officially here and there is finally time to sit back and play some games. What will I be playing you ask? That’s easy, Trauma Center!

Well that’s one of the games I will be playing over the next few days as I am trying to get better grades on my past operations.

I have played the DS version, played much of the Wii version and I have sat down and watched a friend play the Wii version and I think I have enough to write out my thoughts.

First I want to say watching someone play this for the first time is extremely funny. They make a lot of mistakes, accidentally let a person vitals drop then yell out ‘oh no I killed him’.

My friend has come a long way in the game and thinks he’s the best doctor ever actually right now he’s yelling at the nurse ‘get out my way I got the healing touch bitch’.

There were a few noticeable changes made to the Wii version the character art is different, there is the addition of a difficulty setting, and there is also the new operations using a different doctor.

The Trauma Center controls also feels a lot more intuitive the most of the other games which is a good thing because you’re cutting people up, putting their bones back together then sewing them back up.

The game isn’t the easiest though there are times when you might forget what to do because after a while once something has been explained that’s it you’ll have to figure it out on your own.

Let’s face it, it can be really difficult remembering what to do after you cut a person open use an ultrasound to find a tumor once the tumor is found slice the area open then drain it. After its drains you cut around the infected area then… Well you see what I mean right? The life of a virtual doctor can be very hard trying to remember all that but it’s hard in that good challenging way.

The games story isn’t this uber deep I connect with the character and I cry when he cries one but game play alone could this title, and it’s operating room is about as realistic as Phoenix’s Wrights courtroom.

So if you have a Wii then I recommend trying this one out heck if you have a DS then I recommend you checking it out on the DS also for cutting action on the go!

Sneak King

Posted in FMV, Gaming News by Claire Redfield on Nov 23rd, 2006, Comments (0)

So I’m back from Burgerking and I couldn’t help but pick up Sneak King even though my 360 is broken I just had to get it. My friend originally chose Burgerking for dinner because he wanted a copy so we bought 2… and some food.

Now I’m at a friends house and he’s about to play Sneak King and I’m sitting here using a laptop. This game is so wacky I figured that I would do a sort of live blog and just watch him play and write my reaction to what’s going on.

So right now it is 9:56 (Actually I should be home packing all my tech stuff for the roadtrip upstate for family dinner but no I’m watching Sneak King)

Ok so the game is how on and the intro is the creepiest thing ever I have to find a video I hope youtube has it.

The King is in some construction site tip toe-ing around jumping out at people and pulling hamburgers out of hisshirt.

Some guy just fainted from hunger.

The king just gave some guy a sammich and then started dacing….this game is weird

Viva addiction…

Posted in FMV, Gaming News by Grim Santo on Nov 20th, 2006, Comments (0)

I picked Viva Piñata along with Gears of War. It was cheap so I said what the heck. I put it on the shelf and played the hell out of Gears. So the other day I pop in Viva Piñata to give it a play thru. 8 hours later I was still playing it. Damn the game is addictive fun. It like a mix of Harvest moon and Animal crossing. You have to take care of your garden and the Piñata in it. Which sounds simple but here is the evil twist. In order for you to progress in the game and to get more Piñatas. You have to feed some of the Piñata to other piñata. It’s a pretty sick and twisting. When a piñata dies or gets eaten and the moment it’s cracked open, you hear children cheer was glee and candy fly everywhere. I can’t help be feel back for the piñatas as I made the mistake of naming a few. That is a pretty messed up way to go. There is even this guy who will come into your garden and will eat all your sick piñatas if you don’t heal them in time. All this in a kids game. I think this game is going to make some kids cry.

I’ll buy that for a dollar..

What goes wrong with launches and how can they be fixed?

Posted in Gaming News by Claire Redfield on Nov 18th, 2006, Comments (0)

I’m sure many of you out there have heard at least one of the many horror stories that happened during the Friday PS3 launch or maybe one of the past systems launches.

I was talking to a friend about some of the things stores could do better during these launches to make them safer and things that can be done to prevent people from buying up all the systems just to scalp them.

Let’s talk about stores and launches first:

Stores should not do races for items people almost always get hurt but they still do them.

Almost every if not every Black Friday people get trampled and badly hurt running to get things on sale, if things like that don’t work for Black Friday why do them for a system launching with limited units?

It should always be a first come first served thing running and racing against people don’t work… Just ask the guy who had his face smashed into a poll during yesterdays PS3 launch.

Raffles don’t work either if a person that was there first loses and a person who just got there wins the chance to buy a system it could greatly upset the costumer and possibly even start a fight.

Now lining up for 3-5 days just to be the first in line isn’t the safest thing either. You’re stuck outside subject to terrible weather (because these things do launch in the late fall usually) and evil doers start robbing those people on line because they know that they are on line for something that cost a lot of money and a person girl/teen/mother/grandparent camping out in the middle of the night sitting on a beach chair sleeping and obviously carrying a pocket full of monies is just not safe.

Plus having these 3-5 day camping days eliminates the working class that also want to get this system unless they the week off to sit outside in the cold cold rain. Is that any vacation you’d like to take?

Stores shouldn’t allow the line to start until the night leading into the stores morning launch or a few hours before the launch. Midnight launch? Have the line start at 5-7pm then that way police can cover the location for those hours and it gives most people a fair chance on getting to that line without having to take the week off and/or sleep on the streets for days.

But what about those people waiting in line just to sell the system?

Sure there are always going to be people out there looking to make a quick and easy buck so what’s sitting on the street for days to buy something and then resell it at 2-4x its actual cost but things should/could be done about that.

There is a NY law about scalping the law mostly covers sports event tickets but maybe one day these crazy launch systems being sold at insane prices would one day be considered scalping by law and something can be done about it to try and help protect those who actually want to system for personal use and not for someone who wants to sell something that’s worth $600 for $3000.

The law states that a ticket can be resold only up to a 15% mark up or something like that…there is a fixed amount but my major wasn’t law so I don’t remember. Actually it was almost law so maybe I should know this.

That way less people who are just in it for the money would get on line and if they do you won’t have to sell your soul to get a system.

People are charging an insane amount for this thing for example there is a post on craigslist offering a trade. A PS3 for a 360 and $1300. Why trade a system that is almost equal in price and power and also give up $1300 which is more then double the cost of the system?

I know some people likes the lines and events because a new system can feel like New Years but wouldn’t it be better if you were safer and didn’t have to take days off from work to camp out for days? Sure there would still be a line but it would be under better control.

This week, it’s Xbox 360 vs. Amazon Prime membership vs. Mongoose mountain bike vs. Barbie. Clearly, the Xbox 360 is going to win, as it has an 85% share of the votes at time of publish.Customers can buy the cheap ass Xbox next Thursday starting at 11 AM PST. Amazon even has some handy buying tips to help improve your odds. Good luck! You’ll need it.

Amazon Customers Vote
Rumor: Xbox 360 For $100? [Kotaku]

————————————-

For those of you who want an XBOX 360 this is the perfect opportunity, espeically if you weren’t able to snag a PS3 last night. I know it’s a Core system, no one really wants that. For $100 you really cannot go wrong in saving 200 beans. Just spend the extra cash for the HDD you’re all good.

PS3: whats going on after.

Posted in Gaming News by Claire Redfield on Nov 17th, 2006, Comments (0)

So the launch parties are over and the lines are gone but what happened on those lines? What happened after?
Well I’ll post the stories as I find them.
So let’s see what I have found so far:
Customer shot while waiting in PlayStation line

Two suspects were robbing people; drive-by BB gun shooting elsewhere
PUTNAM, Conn. – Two armed men tried to rob a line of people waiting for the new Playstation 3 game system to go on sale early Friday and shot a man who refused to give up his money, authorities said.

In other states, customers pushed and shoved their way to the shelves to get at the limited supply, and in Kentucky, four people were hit by BBs in an apparent drive-by shooting as they waited for a Best Buy store to open.

The two gunman in Putnam confronted 15 to 20 people standing outside a Wal-Mart store shortly after 3 a.m. and demanded money, said State Police Lt. J. Paul Vance.

$100 million for a PS3? What a bargain!

OK, we were willing to believe that PS3 pre-orders were regularly going for over $2,000 on eBay. We even entertained the possibility that selling prices of over $30,000 might actually be legit. But someone willing to pay just short of $100 million for a PS3? That’s nearly half the gross domestic product of Tonga!

The sad part is that it’s hard to tell from the bid history exactly when the auction went from serious pre-order offer to joke-bidding extravaganza. Our best guess is that by the time eBay user mrsophistication placed the first six-figure bid, all logic and good sense had gone out of the proceedings. We can’t help but feel bad for jason_138, who bid Sony’s asking price of $600 only to be outbid by tens of millions of dollars. Better luck next time Jason.

Now that the PS3 has gone from pre-order possibility to actual retail product, will we see average auction prices decrease, or will short supplies lead to continued bidding frenzies throughout the holiday season?

Ode to a PS3 launch.

Izzy featured on Loco Roco’s MySpace Blog!

Posted in Gaming News by Izzy on Nov 17th, 2006, Comments (2)

I was featured on Loco Roco’s blog!
Guess what?! I was featured on Loco Roco’s MySpace blog!! I love those little blobs.

Previous Blog:

Some time ago I went to the Loco Roco MySpace page and signed up for their Spread the Joy Kit. Each week, LocoRoco is giving away a bunch of Spread the Joy kits filled with LocoRoco goodness. I didn’t think I would get anything, but it was worth a try.

Ok, Izzy whats the point?
Well here it is:

Muahaha! I got a Loco Roco hat and PSP chord! Coincidentally I wanted a new hat. Hurray for the little orange blob!

I couldn’t help but smile. It made my day.

Another LocoFriend gets a Spread the Joy Kit

Current mood: mischievous

There might be a few left yet, so sign up at our profile if you haven’t done so already, because you don’t have to be jealous of our latest friend to get a kit.
—————————

They truly made my day (again.) haha! Now I just have get my latest Loco Roco photo shoot off the ground.

But I already own this game!

Posted in Gaming News by Claire Redfield on Nov 15th, 2006, Comments (0)

Even though my 360 is out and I can only play 360 games using a friends 360 I picked up DOAX2 yesterday and as I sat there playing I noticed something…

I already own this freaking game.
I played from 8-9 and looked at some of the new features then watched Veronica Mars from 9-10 then put the game back on after and it’s the same freaking game. The music is the same the character models look exactly the same sure they added a little physics but they aren’t really realistic. Boobs dont bounce in all different directions like that…well at least I dont think they do but i’m pretty sure I know a thing or 2 about breast being a female and all.
So why did I pay the $59.99 full retail price for a game that has so little new things added to it? Well for one I didn’t know that until I played it and 2 I have a bad case of OCD.

Lined Up

Posted in Gaming News by Claire Redfield on Nov 15th, 2006, Comments (0)

For those of you who know me personally know that I work near a Best Buy… and for those of you who dont know me personally then I guess now you know.
Yesterday during my lunch break I was surprised to see that people were already starting to line up for the Friday midnight release of the PS3

When I got out of work the line had grown a little so I went up to a couple of the guys on line and asked them what they were waiting for (even though I already knew). Here is kind how it happened:

VGG: Hey guys you mind if I ask you a question
3 guys: Sure
VGG: what are you guys waiting for? The PS3?
3 guys: yeah
VGG: but you guys have no chairs how are you going to last 3 days?
guy #1: well we are hoping to run off the line when everyone falls asleep to go get chairs and come back.
VGG: you think you’ll be able to last 3 days?
Guy # 3 I once stood in line a week for a pair of sneakers.
VGG:…
VGG: so what games are you going to get with it?
Guy #2: I have to wait and see how much I have left before i think about that.
Guy # 3: that Tekken game looked hot
VGG: You do know that isn’t a launch game right?
Guy #3: oh.. it still looks pretty good.
VGG: Well I wish you guys the best of luck
Guys: thanks

and that was that.

When I came in this morning the line had grown even bigger and those guys had chairs. I didnt have my camera on me so I couldnt take any pics.
Thats all for now i’ll update this later

“Used” PS3 Store Price Hits $1,200 In Japan

Posted in Gaming News by Izzy on Nov 14th, 2006, Comments (0)

So the PS3 fleecing begins. “Used” (with “used” meaning “never opened”) PLAYSTATION 3s are appearing around Tokyo and Osaka. The original launch prices ballparked between 58,900 yen and 70,000 yen for the high end machine, while the cheaper version went for between 49,000 yen and 55,000 yen. Reader Ryan reports that he saw 60gig versions going for 110,000 yen (US $938), and the 20gig going for twice its retail price. While Kotakuite Drew passes along this photo he snapped on November 12th (a day after launch). He points out:

Their price for the 60GB model is more than my frickin’ rent!

In the picture above, the used 60GB version is marked at 144,900 yen ($1,237), and the 20GB one is at 94,290 yen ($805). High store prices are popping up on Japanese blogs like Akiba Blog. Likewise, the intertubes are flooded with these consoles. But at these prices and this steady black market supply, what kind of demand are they expecting?via [Kotaku]

Sony Comments on Backwards Compatibility

Posted in Gaming News by i am cenok on Nov 13th, 2006, Comments (0)

Some people don’t need sound when playing games.

November 13, 2006 – Yesterday, we shared with you a quickly compiled list of PS2 titles that were, according to a database accessible at the official Japanese PlayStation.com site, causing problems when being played on the PlayStation 3. We only looked for the biggest games and found a list that wasn’t too long. But the full list of problematic titles is apparently quite hefty.

Japan’s Cnet.com reports backwards compatibility problems for over 196 PlayStation 2 titles. This figure counts multiple versions of the same game (budget versions, limited editions, etc.) as a single entity and includes the full range of problems, from simple sound issues to more dramatic freezing issues.

In response to these issues, Sony’s PR department pointed out that it, from the start, expected backwards compatibility to be less than 100%. It was also good enough to point out that some people can put up with playing games that lack sound.

Regardless of this somewhat arrogant response, an official statement issued at the PlayStation.com site states that Sony will fix the problems with a future system update, and may even resort to individual patches for certain titles. When this will happen has yet to be specified.
[taken from IGN]

I’m just enjoying the fact that Microsoft came right out and said that all the xbox games wont be backwards compatible, but Sony has been toting backwards compatible as it’s golden child, then they mess it up.

At least Microsoft was truthful about thier BC, and sony has made more promises they can’t keep.

This weeks new releases (Holy Crap!)

Castlevania Movie Poster

Posted in Gaming News by Claire Redfield on Nov 11th, 2006, Comments (0)
I know that video game movies don’t exactly have a stellar past so people might say/think why bother getting your hopes up? I can’t help it, I really love games and I have yet to lose hope that there will one day be a great video game movie. Not every video game movie has been horrible I actually found Doom entertaining and Silent Hill had a lot of noticeable effort put into it and heck I also really love the silent hill series so the movie will always hold a special place in my gamer heart . So to add to the list of upcoming video game movies here is the teaser poster for Castlevania.

From the director who brought you Resident Evil and Alien vs. Predator Paul W.S Anderson! Wait is that really anything to be proud of?
As much as I have hope I also have doubts that there will ever be an epic blockbuster video game movie… I especially doubt anything good would be made by this man.
Don’t get me wrong I liked Resident Evil but I know that it’s because I am such a huge fan of the series (and of zombies) that no matter what was in this movie I most likely would have still went to see it more then once in the theatres… but deep down inside I know that it could have been a lot better.
Alien vs. Predator is a whole different story, that movie was simply craptastic.

So is there a chance for Castlevania to turn out to be a cool movie? This poster takes away all hope and its ‘Dracula Begins’ tagline puts a flaming poop filled paper bag where hope once was.
