Tecno Babble

I’ve had this sitting on my desktop for a while. I wanted to apologize for the lack of posts this week– and it seems my site was down all day yesterday. I was working with HostGator to fix the problem, but I gave up because I was making myself feel worse. I don’t like when my site dissapears, its very chilling. Anyway- I’m back up. I don’t have too much information on the above show, but going on the satisfaction I’ve experienced at many other MPH shows, I’m sure its going to rock.

Murakami Comes to Brooklyn

Murakami Exhibition

I’m not sure whether Murakami himself is going to be in Brooklyn, but some of his works are going to be on display in April at the Brooklyn Museum. I’ve got one request, that the man please attend so I can have the esteemed pleasure of meeting him and hope that he’ll grace my book of sketches with the promise that I will not steal his soul. >_<

The show will be opening April 5th and will run through July 13th. The following is a snippet I stole from the site, along with the image located above.

The exhibition © MURAKAMI explores the self-reflexive nature of Murakami’s oeuvre by focusing on earlier work produced between 1992 and 2000 in which the artist attempts to explore his own reality through an investigation of branding and identity, as well as through self-portraiture created since 2000.

I’ll update with more information. It seems all people are able to attend. Adults $10, kids and senior citizens $8.

MadL Solo Show teaser

I know he posted this image over a week ago, but I am just getting to it for some odd reason. I always want to share the second I know, but I try not to because then I forget to remind people when two months have gone by. In this case, the show will be in about a month. What’s does Mad say on his flickr? This image is a teaser for [his] upcoming solo show at MPH. If you’ve been following his flickr, you’d know he’s releasing 10″ Mad*L’s, which by the way are my FAVORITE vinyl. I only wish I was in the know of this community sooner to be a part of the Mad*L madness. I’ll let you know when there’s more info and any additional teasers. In the meantime, I recommend you add him to your contacts (if you’ve got a flickr account) to know of any updates.

Superdeux 10, originally uploaded by saki-waki.

Thursday came and went, but you still have a chance to attend Superdeux’s My World is Flat show currently being exhibited at Gallery Hanahou. I wrote about going to the show, and after getting out of classes on Thursday, I rushed my booty downtown, getting off on the wrong stop, to stuff myself into the tiny gallery.

The space was a little bigger than I had imagined, though I didn’t know that the building that contained it was an office building. I arrived to interrupt Superdeux in a conversation. I made my way into the gallery where my senses were attacked with cuteness. I love his style so much. He displayed prints, toys, bags, skateboard decks, trucks, plushies, and wall decals. I also saw a pair of sneakers, but it escapes my mind why I didn’t take a picture of those. Woops.

The place had a constant flow of people coming in and out, blocking my way when I was trying to take photos. I was happy to see people like Paul (KR Founder), Tristan Eaton, Keith Poon, etc., all come out to support, especially on a weekday. Though I was falling asleep on the train before I arrived, I must admit that the place definitely livened me up. It snapped me into excited mode. I loved running into the usual suspects, and I even managed to hand deliver stickers to John who won the Buff giveaway. Nicolle, if you’re reading this, yours are on the way. =)

Follow the flickr link to more photos from the show. Go check it out people, it’ll warm your hearts!

Superdeux at Hanahou

Gallery Hanahou
611 Broadway, Suite 730
NYC, NY

This is going to be short, since it’s 2 am and my OCD won’t allow me to go to sleep until I read ALL of my RSS feeds (I only have 687 to go). This Thursday Superdeux will be at Gallery Hanahou to release some:

Custom editions of the artist’s popular Stereotype toy series, limited-edition prints, wall stickers, and other new work.

If you’re in the neighborhood you might want to make your way down there * I’ll be arriving around 7:30, since I still have classes. I will take this opportunity to tell the world that I was sick on Friday and couldn’t go to the show at MPH, and Saturday as much as I tried to get to Tara’s opening (I blame my Mr.) I didn’t make it. I’m planning on going this Friday though to get some shots of her works. Also, Buff Monster giveaway eneded last Saturday and seeing as Nicolle and John were my only commenters (sad for me, great for them) they’re getting stickers in the mail! I should’ve sent it out Sunday, but I realized that I took the time to pick out stationery and envelopes for them, and the Buff Monster postcards don’t fit in them. So, they’ve been sent 2 days late. I apologize for withholding. >_<

Reminder: Tara McPherson’s Solo Show

 Tara McPherson Pink Skull Flower

I wrote about Tara McPherson’s solo show at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery a couple weeks ago. I should’ve written this earlier, but I didn’t get a chance to do so. I’m on my way there now, running late thanks to the Mr., hope to see some of you there and if not… you missed out. Also, Lori Earley is also having a solo show today, same gallery. Two-for-One is the awesomeness.

The above piece is a sneak from tonight’s show, it’s selling for $12,000! I wish I had that kind of loot so I could buy it. Or the balloons canvas. n_n

The Showroom: Buff Monster

White and Pink 8″ Buff Monster

I had the pleasure of attending the Mindstyle release party on Sunday where Buff Monster unleashed his white and pink 8″ Buff Monster. I got to the show a little late because I met up with my family to eat strawberry parfaits at Hiroko’s Place. I really recommend this restaurant (located on Thompson and Spring). When we arrived to Toy Tokyo’s Showroom, Sket was outside (he also dropped his 8″ Oreo Ripple which I LOVE!!) waiting for a cab I think. We caught up, since we haven’t been able to talk online for a while. I’m in school and he’s super busy with his works, so aim is not catering to the communication needs these days. It was great seeing him, since I hadn’t seen him in person since his show at MPH. Before we said goodbye he warned Buff was trying to get out of the place so I should hurry if I planned on getting a sketch.

Buff Monster Wall

When I got upstairs, the first thing I was mezmerized with was the main wall. It was taken up by a 6′ long Buff Monster face. I loved it. Buff’s manager, whose name I didn’t catch, asked how much we were willing to pay for the wall. $10,000? Sure, why not? If I had the money, I’d get all my favorite artists to do an exclusive work on all the walls in my home. Oh if only. Anyway, I spoke to Buff’s manager and explained that I love to collect souls and I really wanted to include Buff in my book. He looked through it, and then said he’d get Buff to sign his name. When Buff stepped out, I got all giddy and chatted with him for a bit. I think he was aware that I’m a fan of his works. :-) He went against his manager’s request and drew a Buff Monster in my book, with WINGS!! I love it. I’m so happy that he didn’t just sign his name. Then we got hooked up with some stickers, chatted a bit more, and left. Hit the jump to see a couple more pics.

Last Minute Signing

White Buff

I apologize for not posting this information much sooner, but I thought the show was going to be last night, which is the only reason my Mr. and I left the house, and it turns out- it’s tonight. Buff Monster is going to be at Toy Tokyo’s Showroom to release an exclusive and limited 8″ white and pink buff monster [pictured above]. I’m always excited when West Coast artists come to the East, so I’m definitely going to be there. In addition to the release of Buff Monster, Toy Tokyo will also be releasing Sket-One’s Oreo Ripple (covered in black flock and accompanied by an assortment of 8 eyes). I’m not sure whether I want to purchase these pieces yet, I am really digging the Oreo Ripple, but we’ll see how things work out. If you’re int he city tonight, the signing will be from 7-11pm at The Showroom, located on the corner of 7th Street/2nd Ave. Hope to see you there. ;-)
