Titled: Mom!! Something’s Wrong With This Egg

I thought this shot came out great. I believe the Qee egg was created by Gary Baseman. I actually don’t own any of the Qee Egg series, but this is one that I would love to own. Click on the image to visit his flickr. Thanks Paco for submitting it to I ♥ Toy flickr group. I really appreciate the addition.

Tokidoki Qee

Hello,

I am in the beginning hours of the new day and what am I doing instead of sleeping? I’m working on the looks of the site. I apologize about the changes. I realize there is a lot of white space on the site [if you come to it directly- does not apply to rss feeds], and I plan on changing the color schemes. I was going to keep it underwraps until the transformation was complete, but then it hit me– I tell you guys all the time that I’m teaching myself css/html and decided that I wanted you to notice me succeed or fail at such attempts. Also, if you happen to know css/html, maybe you want to hook me up with some of your skills? -P

Anyway. This unfortunately is still not the last time I will change the “theme” of the site. I’m working on something– which I hope really pans out to really make what I think is a serious transformation. I am quite happy to have your support during this time and your patience is most appreciated.

Also, it has very recently come to my attention that my site acts bonkers on Safari. I have Safari on my computer, but it lacks a lot of what I want, therefore, I don’t use it. I had an interview with Jon Schiller and it seems that Safari doesn’t display it. So, please open up the firefox to read the interview. That’s all for now.

P.S. I apologize about the lack of posts this week– it’s been super crazy in my life. I’ve got midterms and stories due… I’m surprised I was able to post anything. I need a vacation. x____x

MIST

I found this on one of the forums I go to. I won’t specify which one, because apparently it’s a leaked image and would never want to compromise people and their relationships to the artists. In any case, if someone contacted me about it, I’d take it down– or would (if they asked) give them the source I got it from. ** What do you think? It’s not specified what it is yet, but I like it. He’s cute… and I love the shape of the head and the expression on its face. BONES!!

**Note: In certain situations, to protect sources, I will NOT give them up.

Interview: Jon Schiller

Mookie and Little 9 Print

So, I had a ’sit down’- in a very loose sense of the saying- with Jon Schiller, creator of Little 9 and Friends. If you haven’t seen his stuff, you might consider seeing the following posts; Plastic and Plush and ToysREvil for more info. I recently purchased Mookie, the little Earth dog from his collection [image located above] and was a little more than curious to know about him and the designs. Check out the interview after the jump.

Indiana Jones Mini Munny, originally uploaded by Hefnatron.

We remember when Hefnatron brought us King Leonidas, right? Well, the man just messaged me with news of his newest completion. Indiana Jones, baby! Now, I unfortunately am not a fan of Indiana Jones [please ‘listen’ to the reasoning], because my step-dad NEVER wanted to go out on weekends and played Indiana Jones and Bruce Lee movies in a loop all weekend long.

I’m sure if I watch them now, I’d probably enjoy what was used as a torture method when I was younger. I can however, admit that this munny is kick ass and I especially love the additions of the whip and hat! Great job Hefnatron, keep up the good work! [Click for MORE]

Kid Robot/MPH Shopping

Posted in I Heart Toys by saki on Mar 2nd, 2008, Comments (0)

I haven’t been able to satisfy my vinyl addictions in a while thanks to the fact that I got a job in the Dept. of Education and somehow get screwed over more on timesheets/checks than ever before. The good thing about it though, I apparently get free tickets to things like Comic Con because I’m an “educator”. Anyway, Kidrobot is having a huge sale. This has a lot to do with the fact that they’re relocating. They’ve finally admitted that their location on Prince and Wooster is too small. Their temporary location (possibly permanent), which is significantly bigger, is located on 70 Greene St.

Friday the 29th was the beginning of their huge sale. I logged onto their site to see all the things I wanted to buy and had the cartoon effect of my eyes popping out of my head when I realized they had Uglydoll vinyls. Also, one of my Flickr buddies had told me some of their bags were on sale too, and they just so happened to have the dunny bag I wanted for $25. I tried calling them to reserve my stuff, but clearly the Prince location was closed. When I logged back to the site, my bag was sold out, the uglydoll vinyls I wanted were sold out. Needless to say, I was extremely sad. That was until we (my Mr. and I) went to shopping yesterday and somehow I managed to get ALL the things I wanted. Helpful tip, always make friends with the sales employees. I got my uglydoll vinyls and some more stuff, and when I was ready to pay, I got into a conversation with their employee, who’s name I didnt take. I told him how sad I was they no longer had the dunny bag, and when I decided to settle for the blue tilt bag, it was also sold out. That’s when he told me, he had one stashed away.

He led me to the front of the store and a girl had picked up the very last dunny bag he was refferring to. Even better, she didn’t know if she wanted it or not. So I had my Mr. follow her around the shop while I got extra stuff to giveaway on the site. He did so. The girl turned it into the aforementioned employee and he held it for me. Wasn’t that nice. Why’d I go into this spiel? If you’re in the city, go to the shop- don’t rely on the inventory located online. I got Wage, which was sold out online (I took the last one too). Also, make friends, in the future this will help get the things you want.  If there’s no way for you to go to the shop drop me a line. If I have time this week I can take a look for you and see if they still have some of the items you’re interested in. I always carry my trusty helio, so don’t be afraid to ask. I don’t make any promises though. -D

[My Tofu Robots and Cactus pups were purchased at MPH. I LOVE THEM sooOOoo much!]

Superdeux: My World is Flat! @ Hanahou

Superdeux 10, originally uploaded by saki-waki.

Thursday came and went, but you still have a chance to attend Superdeux’s My World is Flat show currently being exhibited at Gallery Hanahou. I wrote about going to the show, and after getting out of classes on Thursday, I rushed my booty downtown, getting off on the wrong stop, to stuff myself into the tiny gallery.

The space was a little bigger than I had imagined, though I didn’t know that the building that contained it was an office building. I arrived to interrupt Superdeux in a conversation. I made my way into the gallery where my senses were attacked with cuteness. I love his style so much. He displayed prints, toys, bags, skateboard decks, trucks, plushies, and wall decals. I also saw a pair of sneakers, but it escapes my mind why I didn’t take a picture of those. Woops.

The place had a constant flow of people coming in and out, blocking my way when I was trying to take photos. I was happy to see people like Paul (KR Founder), Tristan Eaton, Keith Poon, etc., all come out to support, especially on a weekday. Though I was falling asleep on the train before I arrived, I must admit that the place definitely livened me up. It snapped me into excited mode. I loved running into the usual suspects, and I even managed to hand deliver stickers to John who won the Buff giveaway. Nicolle, if you’re reading this, yours are on the way. =)

Follow the flickr link to more photos from the show. Go check it out people, it’ll warm your hearts!

Where the wild things are Dunnys

Where the wild things are Dunnys, originally uploaded by “agg” Cassididdy.

With the upcoming release of Where the Wild Things Are movie, I was searching through flickr to see what people were sharing about this book turned movie. One of my contacts had taken a picture of his Max plush, Max being the name of the protagonist in the book, and I searched for him and found out that Barnes and Noble has him on sale for $8. Following that image, this pair of Dunnys came up. I Love it so much. I want to own them, but I can’t. Maybe. They’re going to be a part of the “Sadly Beautiful” show, which I also know that Brent Nolasco just completed something for too. I’m going to have to keep my eyes open to see how much it sells for.

Did anyone read this book? This was one of my favorites, along with other titles.

Did you know that the last plant that still created poloroid cartridges has officially closed? I thought this would be both a great celebration of Poloroid and of Toys. She’s part of the Rolitoland crew, right? I got to look through my collection now… or the net. ;-)

ToyLove 2008

A couple days ago I wrote about the Baby Treeson giveaway that Andy over at ToysREvil was hosting. It officially ended today at 10:59am (11:59 pm in Singapore). I am super excited to find out who won. Below are my two submissions, and after the jump you can see my favorite shots from other participants– though I really hope I win. Times are tough these days, and this would really put a smile on my face and lift my spirits.

The Story

At first Minty didn’t get it. Then he realized, her orange and yellow stripes were making him a mad man. He had to tell her how he felt. He just did. He went home and worked on a special gift just for her. When he approached her, she didn’t expect it.

At first she was startled and even pointed her weapon at him. He quivered in fear, as the woman wasn’t just great looking, she was a perfect shot too! She lowered her weapon, looked him in the eyes, and put her defenses down. She accepted with joy, and together they celebrated their ♥ and passion for color. ^_^

The Story

It seems that Ciao Ciao and Adios were destined to be together forever. Once they laid eyes on each other in life they seemed to be inseparable. Every few years they come up to our world, and take advantage of the lovely views. Love is intoxicating and it crosses so many boundaries, including death.

The Showroom: Buff Monster

Posted in I Heart Toys, Shows/Events by saki on Feb 19th, 2008, Comments (0)

White and Pink 8″ Buff Monster

I had the pleasure of attending the Mindstyle release party on Sunday where Buff Monster unleashed his white and pink 8″ Buff Monster. I got to the show a little late because I met up with my family to eat strawberry parfaits at Hiroko’s Place. I really recommend this restaurant (located on Thompson and Spring). When we arrived to Toy Tokyo’s Showroom, Sket was outside (he also dropped his 8″ Oreo Ripple which I LOVE!!) waiting for a cab I think. We caught up, since we haven’t been able to talk online for a while. I’m in school and he’s super busy with his works, so aim is not catering to the communication needs these days. It was great seeing him, since I hadn’t seen him in person since his show at MPH. Before we said goodbye he warned Buff was trying to get out of the place so I should hurry if I planned on getting a sketch.

Buff Monster Wall

When I got upstairs, the first thing I was mezmerized with was the main wall. It was taken up by a 6′ long Buff Monster face. I loved it. Buff’s manager, whose name I didn’t catch, asked how much we were willing to pay for the wall. $10,000? Sure, why not? If I had the money, I’d get all my favorite artists to do an exclusive work on all the walls in my home. Oh if only. Anyway, I spoke to Buff’s manager and explained that I love to collect souls and I really wanted to include Buff in my book. He looked through it, and then said he’d get Buff to sign his name. When Buff stepped out, I got all giddy and chatted with him for a bit. I think he was aware that I’m a fan of his works. :-) He went against his manager’s request and drew a Buff Monster in my book, with WINGS!! I love it. I’m so happy that he didn’t just sign his name. Then we got hooked up with some stickers, chatted a bit more, and left. Hit the jump to see a couple more pics.

Huck Gee x Mad= Pricey Mad*L

Huck and Mad

I am a huge fan of Mad’s Mad*Ls, so much so that when we (Mad and I) finally met up, he sketched a couple Mad*Ls in my book. The design is very clean, fresh and spunky and it leaves the canvas open for plenty of designs. Well, an ebay member [picsandparts214] has just posted his Huck Gee Mad*L design. Check image above. The Mad*L measures 20″ and was part of a Mad*L custom show. Be prepared to drop some major dinero on it though, as the starting bid is $4,000.00!! Uh, Huck I love your designs, but this means no food for half a year!!! :-(

Last Minute Signing

Posted in I Heart Toys, Shows/Events by saki on Feb 17th, 2008, Comments (0)

White Buff

I apologize for not posting this information much sooner, but I thought the show was going to be last night, which is the only reason my Mr. and I left the house, and it turns out- it’s tonight. Buff Monster is going to be at Toy Tokyo’s Showroom to release an exclusive and limited 8″ white and pink buff monster [pictured above]. I’m always excited when West Coast artists come to the East, so I’m definitely going to be there. In addition to the release of Buff Monster, Toy Tokyo will also be releasing Sket-One’s Oreo Ripple (covered in black flock and accompanied by an assortment of 8 eyes). I’m not sure whether I want to purchase these pieces yet, I am really digging the Oreo Ripple, but we’ll see how things work out. If you’re int he city tonight, the signing will be from 7-11pm at The Showroom, located on the corner of 7th Street/2nd Ave. Hope to see you there. ;-)
